ENSSURE Prepares to Launch Apprenticeship Programme
24 May 2018
Enhanced Skills for Sustainable and Rewarding Employment (ENSSURE) project, 2016 to 2025, is established under an agreement between the Government of Nepal (GoN) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Divided into three phases, phase one of the project (January 2016 to December 2019) is implemented by the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) with technical assistance from Helvetas Nepal.
One of the major components of the project is skills training in the form of the Apprenticeship programme. Though, some aspects of the Apprenticeship exist in Nepalese vocational and technical education scenario, ENSSURE is attempting to develop and strengthen it as a part of vocational and technical education and training.
ENSSURE has finalized the preparation to launch the Apprenticeship programme in the first quarter of the fiscal year2075/76. In the run-up to launching this form of skill development training, ENSSURE revived Apprenticeship Committee, drafted Apprenticeship Procedure, conducted a series of workshops and interactions with several potential host businesses, companies, associations, training providers and national and international TVET experts.
The first phase of the project aims to have 1,200 Apprenticeship graduates. In the first round, 200 apprentices in two trades- Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering- will be trained via CTEVT-constituent and partner schools with whom the CTEVT has already signed MoUs.
