Introduction
Workers’ Further Training is a short-term training provided to existing workers to upgrade their skills to match the requirement of the changing market. The curriculum developed by the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) or the curriculum developed with the support of the project will be used for the training. The total duration of this training will depend on the course and occupation. Generally, the duration will be 96 hours with at least 4 to 6 hours of training classes conducted daily.
At the training venue, workers will learn theoretical aspects of the specific skill along the practical session in the laboratory or simulated environment based on the curriculum.
Upon completion of the course, the participants will receive a certificate of completion.
Target Group
Workers employed in industry/business, self-employed youth, youth returning from foreign employment will be included in the target group of this training program. During the training, at least 60% of the socially disadvantaged group (Disadvantaged Group) in which 55% of women will be included from the target group.
Eligibility criteria
Nepali youths, particularly from disadvantaged groups, fulfilling the following criteria are eligible to enrol in the training:
• Be a Nepali citizen;
• Minimum 18 years old;
• Existing worker working in the relevant profession;
• Should have educational qualifications as determined by the curriculum of the relevant profession.
Training process
Partner industry association conducts skill upgradation need and demand assessment from member industries/commodity association. If the skill upgradation needed is not covered in the course curriculum already developed, then the course curriculum is developed in conjunction with the respective commodity association. Once the course curriculum is determined, the project will call for RFP according to the need and demand assessment. Training providers are selected according to the RFP. Selected training providers will then coordinate with the partner association and respective commodity association/member industries to finalize the participants and agrees on the trainers. Once the trainers and participants are confirmed, the training institute conducts the skill upgradation training in class for theory and in a laboratory or a simulated environment for practical sessions. Monitoring will be done by the partner association, commodity association and the project. Upon completion of the training, the participants will receive a certificate of completion provided jointly. Workers will then return to their respective industry with upgraded skills.
Career Path
Those who complete the course and get certificate of completion will be eligible for more specialized work, get better paying work, can join different organizations as well as start their own.
Project Introduction
Enhanced Skills for Sustainable and Rewarding Employment (ENSSURE) is a bilateral project of the Governments of Nepal and Switzerland. The first phase of the ENSSURE project is being implemented from January 2016 until July 2022, and the second phase is from September 2021 to July 2025. The project is implemented by the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) at the federal level, the Ministry of Social Development at the provincial level, and municipalities at the local level with Helvetas Nepal providing technical assistance. Phase II of the project is implemented in Province 1, Bagmati Province, and Lumbini Province.
As a system-building initiative, ENSSURE focuses on Dual VET- Apprenticeship, Training with OJT, Worker’s Further Training, Career Guidance, Occupational Health and Safety, and Human Resource Management of partner companies.
